Five more days to VOTE in The Nursery Contest!

If you missed this little beauty’s pre-sneak peek, be sure to check it out. You may remember little Ainsley on my blog here or maybe here or maybe even here from her newborn session. Apparently I like to do lots of sneak peeks of her…lol. She is just a doll though and has grown so much! She is part of my first year program so you will get to see her on here at least a couple more times this year! I just love watching my clients grow!

She made me work to get smiles out of her, but I ended up getting quite a few…so cute!

She was a little obsessed with her feet.:)Just love this age!

{Mine on Monday} Spokane Kids Photographer

Look at that – I’m actually posting this on Monday this week!:)

Last week we started swimming lessons. Both of my kid’s love the water, but Emery is seriously a little fish. She doesn’t want me to catch her when she jumps in (so I let her jump in and then have to go fish her out…lol) and she is always pushing my arms off of her so she can swim by herself. The only problem is she isn’t quite strong enough to get her head above water yet. I need to teach her how to roll to her back so she can get a breath because I honestly think she could swim by herself then (me close by still, of course!).  I keep waiting for her to be more cautious about it, but she was exactly like this last summer too so it has been at least 8 months and still not one bit afraid.  I love it – so fun!

So this is my first time trying to embed a video and I have no idea if it is going to work or not, so let’s give it a try! Here is Emery jumping in during swimming lessons.

{5 on Friday} Spokane Photographer

Happy Friday!

1. Last Day to enter THE NURSERY CONTEST is on Sunday. I am hoping people are just waiting until last minute because I know there are some cool nurseries out there in Spokane! Don’t miss out on your chance to win a free mini-session!!! Enter today!

2. I am starting to book well into spring, so if you are thinking of scheduling for spring (or even summer) contact me soon. I have changed my schedule a bit this year and there are only a limited number of sessions each month.

3. Along those lines, I am working on putting together a spring mini-session promotion. So if you are wanting pictures, but not necessarily a full session, keep an eye out! Feel free to email me to put you on the waiting list and I will email out details to you first so you have first chance to book before opening it up publicly as space will be limited.

4. I’m totally slacking on Mine on Monday posts (though I don’t think I have missed a week yet…just have been late the last couple of weeks);). Last weekend, we had a great time hanging out as a family. On Friday we took the kids to Monster Jam. This was Teagun’s third time, but Emery’s first. She was still a bit young and didn’t have the attention span for the whole time, but overall, it was a success.

Then on Saturday we took the kids up to Mt. Spokane snow tubing. Emery could not get enough…she was not a happy camper when our session ended. It was such a gorgeous day too. Loved seeing the sun for a few days last weekend!

(all photos taken with my point and shoot)

5. Daylight Savings is 2 weeks away – 2 weeks! Yes, I am beyond excited and counting down the days…I love my daylight!:)

Ok, I am adding one more because I had this typed up with my five already and then my friend, Amy, who you may remember did the Bigger Really is Better post a couple months ago just posted another great post that I think is worth sharing! Sooo…

6. Go check out Amy’s blog post on HOW TO PICK A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER. Great info and examples too!

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

{Photographer Spotlight – Jen Williams Photography}

Today I have the great pleasure of introducing my blog readers to Jen with Jen Williams Photography.

Tell us a little about yourself…
My name is Jen Williams, I’m 28 years old and married to a wonderful man named Chad. I have one furbaby, a pomeranian named Jinx.

Where is home?
Currently I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada but will be moving to Vancouver, BC Canada (home of the 2010 Olympics) in the fall.

How did you get interested in Photography?
During my wedding planning, I had a ton of DIY projects, so once the wedding was over I needed a new hobby. I picked up a dSLR in September 08 and fell head over heels in love. Photography has been such an amazing outlet for me, and never dreamt I could create the images I do.

What is your primary focus (weddings, children, etc)?
Weddings and boudoir pay my bills! They are both so dynamically different, challenging and FUN!

What’s in your camera bag?
Canon 5dmkII (x2),
35 1.4L – my current fave!
50 1.4
85 1.8 – my second fave
100mm 2.8 macro
24-70 2.8L – retired/backup
70-200 2.8L

If you could use just one lens for the next year, what would it be?

I bought my 35L with the intention of using it for groups and wider shots at weddings. Since it was quite the investment I forced myself to use it during portrait sessions and it hasn’t left my camera since. I’ve used it exclusively on my last 3 sessions.

Describe your style:
My style is real. Real emotion, real smiles, real tears, real moments. The purpose of my images is to show a moment in time that will evoke emotion in the viewer.

In my boudoir imagery, my goal is to make my subject feel beautiful. It takes a lot of guts to get in front of a camera in your skivvies. Most women don’t realize how beautiful they really are and it makes me feel good to show that to them. Being able to give someone that confidence is the best part of my job.

What is your dream for your business?
To be able to continue to do what I love, make people happy and travel the world. I want to find the balance and kick some serious butt!

List your top 5 photographers that inspire you?
Jennifer Skog
Critsey Rowe
Jamie Delaine
Jesh De Rox
Jerry Ghionis

What would you like to be doing 5 years from now?
I would love to be traveling the world and taking photos of our adventures. There are so many places I want to see and things I want to do. My ultimate goal would be to finance our travels by selling fine art prints of things we photograph while traveling.

Mac or PC?
Mac! I love Mac so much that I’ve forgotten how to use a PC.

What is your favorite product you offer?
I love big canvases. They come ready to hang and the image wraps around the side. It’s a very unique and classy look.

What advice would you give to someone who is just looking into becoming a wedding and/or boudoir photographer?
For weddings, get ready to work! Weddings can be stressful if you let them. Be prepared for things to go wrong and always make sure the bride is happy.

Shooting boudoir is not just about taking pretty pictures of pretty girls. I find myself playing the role of photographer, stylist, director, and psychologist all in one session. Understanding women and the way we think is essential, as is tact and honesty. Earning your clients’ trust is key to having a fun and relaxed session.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Just one?! I just can’t give up Starbucks. I gave up sugar, bread and processed food, yet I can’t give up the bux. I can’t explain it.

If your not at a session, what might we find you doing?
Cuddling with my hubby and my furbaby Jinx. I recently took up knitting as well!

Best vacation you have taken?
I haven’t taken a ton of vacations but I’d have to say my destination wedding/honeymoon in Maui. It was magical. All our loved ones were there and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

If you had one wish…
I would live on the beach! I have had enough of Canadian winters! I seriously envy those SoCal photogs, being able to shoot every day in gorgeous weather makes me so jealous.

Thank you so much, Jen!
